Since the early days of aviation, women have been active participants in aviation and education. Opportunities for women in aviation did not come easily, they were based on decades of struggle, determination, and perseverance . Sarla Thakral (1914 – 15 March 2008) was the first Indian woman to fly an aircraft, she earned an aviation pilot license in 1936 at the age of 21 and flew a Gypsy Moth solo. Since then there is no looking back. Indian Women entered this field , conquered it and proved that flying an aeroplane is not based on chromosomes .At present Women are not only proving their worth by flying fighter airplanes and holding important portfolios in this sector ,they are also making the country proud by having the maximum number of women pilots in the world. Very little has been said or documented about their contribution in aviation and aerospace sector .Aviatrix India endeavours to identify these role models , connect with them, inspire the young generation and rewrite the history of women’s contribution in aviation sector.
